Wellness Visit

A yearly wellness visit is not a hunt for hidden disease at any cost. It is a structured hour for the risks that are real for you, the prevention that is due, and the symptoms you have been postponing. Done well, it is shorter than people fear and more useful than a stack of unfocused tests.

Before you arrive

Write three questions and stop at three. Bring the medicine list, including supplements, and the name of any clinician you saw since last year. If a relative had a heart event, a cancer, or a fracture at a young age, note the age. Family history is about ages as much as diagnoses.

Measure blood pressure at home for a week if you own a cuff, and bring the readings. Clinic nerves can lift a number. Home readings tell a truer story.

What the visit should cover

Blood pressure, weight trend, sleep, mood, movement, alcohol, and tobacco belong in the conversation even when you feel well. So do vaccines that have lapsed and screening that is due for your age and history. A pelvic, breast, prostate, or colon conversation should be specific, not a slogan.

Laboratory work, if any, should be chosen in the room. A healthy adult does not need every panel on the menu every year. Dr. Ellison’s plans remove tests that are too frequent and keep the ones that can still change a quiet risk.

What you can skip

Full-body scans marketed as reassurance, endless vitamin panels, and food intolerance lists without a clinical story rarely earn their place. If you want one of those, ask what decision it will change. If the answer is vague, you can decline it without hurting the relationship.

Leaving the room

You should leave with a short list: what was normal, what will be watched, what you will do in the next month, and which symptom means you should not wait for next year. If that list is missing, ask for it before you go. The point of the visit is the list, not the performance of being examined.
